Point your domain to your web hosting: website and email
Checked against the client area 29 October 2026
A domain on your web hosting shows your website and receives email only once the domain’s DNS points there. If the domain uses our nameservers, the client area changes the DNS records for you. You choose whether the website, the email or both are connected to the hosting.
Open your domains in the client area
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The domain must be on the hosting account. If it isn’t, add it first.
- Connecting only changes where visitors and new email go. Files and email at the old provider are not copied. Put the website on the hosting and create the mailboxes before you connect them.
How to
Section titled “How to”If the domain’s website or email already points somewhere else when it is added to the hosting, those settings are kept. You get an email about the domain. This happens, for example, when you add the domain in cPanel or order the hosting.
- Open the email and click the button or link in it. You don’t need to sign in.
- The Connect your domain page shows Website and Email. Currently shows where they point now. Change to shows the hosting’s address.
- To connect only one of them, click Only want to connect one?. Choose Website only — keep email as it is or Email only — keep website as it is.
- Click Connect website and email. If you chose only one, the button reads Connect website or Connect email.
- If you don’t want to change anything, click Keep current settings instead.
Choose when you add the domain in the client area
Section titled “Choose when you add the domain in the client area”If you add the domain to the hosting from the client area and it uses our nameservers, the website and email are connected straight away. If the website or email already points somewhere else, the client area asks first in the Set up your domain dialog. What's connected now shows what is connected today.
- Choose one of the options. The one marked Recommended is preselected.
- Use hosting for everything: both the website and email are pointed to the hosting.
- Keep current email: only the website is pointed to the hosting.
- Keep current website: only the email is pointed to the hosting.
- Keep current setup: the domain is added and nothing else changes.
- Click Continue.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”The client area changes the DNS records for the domain, www and email so that they point to the hosting. Other records stay as they are.
On the page from the email, Updating your domain shows while the change is made. The page refreshes by itself. Once both the website and email are connected, it says Your domain is connected. If you connected only one, it says Your website is connected or Your email is connected. You connect the other one in the client area through Manage the remaining settings in your account.
If you connect the email, new email to the domain arrives in the mailboxes on the hosting.
The domain’s DNS is at another provider
Section titled “The domain’s DNS is at another provider”The client area can only change records in our DNS. If the domain’s DNS is managed somewhere else, the page from the email says so.
- Change the nameservers to
primary.ns.hostup.seandsecondary.ns.hostup.seat the provider where the domain is registered. If the domain is registered with us, you do this in the client area. See Change the nameservers for your domain. - Make your choice on the page from the email, ideally before the change. The choice is saved and takes effect once the domain points to our nameservers.
If you want to keep DNS at the other provider, add the records there. The email about the domain gives the address the domain and www should point to, and the records the email needs.
Connect the email later
Section titled “Connect the email later”If the domain is on the hosting but its email still points somewhere else, you can connect it from the domain’s page.
- Open the domain and the Email tab.
- Click Switch email to this web hosting. The button only shows when the email does not already go to the hosting.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- The link in the email is valid for 24 hours. Once you have made a choice, it cannot be used again.
- If the link has expired, the page says so. Click Sign in to continue to open the domain in the client area.
- If the domain has a redirect, the website cannot be connected until the redirect is removed. Remove it in the domain’s Redirects tab. When you remove it you can choose Delete and point to web hosting. The website is then pointed to the hosting at the same time.
- If email forwarding is on for the domain, the email cannot be connected. Turn it off in the domain’s Email tab first.
